Product Introduction

Stachyose is a naturally occurring tetrasaccharide with the molecular formula C24H42O21 and a relative molecular weight of 666.59. Its structure consists of two galactose, one glucose, and one fructose units. It is a non-reducing functional oligosaccharide. Stachyose is not decomposed by human gastrointestinal digestive juice and belongs to the category of soluble dietary fiber.

Physicochemical Properties
Appearance: White powder with a fresh taste and no peculiar smell.
Sweetness: Approximately 22% of sucrose sweetness.
Solubility: Easily soluble in water (130g at 20ºC); insoluble in organic solvents like ether and ethanol.
Stability: Moisture retention and hygroscopicity are less than sucrose but higher than high fructose syrup.
Melting Point: 101ºC (crystalline); anhydrous stachyose melts at 167ºC~170ºC.
Non-reducibility: Stachyose has no reducibility.
Physiological Characteristics
1. Proliferate Bifidobacteria

Effectively utilized by human intestinal bifidobacteria to regulate the balance of intestinal flora. Bifidobacteria preferentially consume stachyose even when other sugars are present.

2. Relieve Constipation and Prevent Diarrhea

As a small molecule water-soluble dietary fiber, it helps produce short-chain fatty acids in the large intestine. Its hydroxyl groups help absorb water to alleviate diarrhea and enhance intestinal function.

3. Liver Protection

Reduces ammonia produced by amino acid decomposition in the intestine, helping to prevent ammonia poisoning and fighting liver cirrhosis.

4. Immunomodulatory Function

The α-1,6-galactose structure participates in immune processes, preventing pathogen infection and neutralizing toxins to improve overall human immunity.

5. Lead Removal

Reduces the residence time of food residues and expels lead through the intestine. It also reduces lead absorption by promoting B vitamin synthesis.

6. Regulate Blood Glucose and Lipids

Studies show it can significantly reduce fasting blood glucose, triglycerides, and total cholesterol levels in type 2 diabetic models.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Stachyose?
Stachyose is a natural functional tetrasaccharide consisting of galactose, glucose, and fructose. It acts as a soluble dietary fiber and a powerful prebiotic.
Is Stachyose a sweetener?
While it has a fresh taste, its sweetness is only about 22% of regular sucrose. It is primarily used for its functional health benefits rather than as a primary sweetener.
How does it benefit gut health?
It specifically promotes the growth of beneficial bifidobacteria in the gut, helping to balance flora, relieve constipation, and improve overall digestive function.
Can it be used in animal feed?
Yes, it is highly effective in poultry, pig, and aquaculture feed at concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 1.25% to improve animal health and growth.
Is Stachyose stable during processing?
Yes, it is very stable with a melting point of 101ºC and remains effective even after losing crystallization water through vacuum heating.
Does it help with detoxification?
Stachyose has been shown to assist in lead removal from the human body by reducing the residence time of food in the intestine and inhibiting lead absorption.
